Andrew Pierce
Andrew Pierce is 57 years old and has been a columnist for the Daily Mail since 2009. He was formerly an Assistant Editor for the The Daily Telegraph and for The Time. From 2008 to 2012 Andrew was on a political radio station called LBC 97.3, which later presented a second show. He started the second radio station on March 22 in 2014 and Pierce is currently on the show while still working for the Daily Mail.
While writing, Pierce appeals to ethos more often than not. In his articles, Andrew uses ethos to give his argument credibility. He not only uses people and companies to provide credible evidence but also situations that have occurred and that have been in the news, as well as statistics that have been conducted. Like all Daily Mail articles, Andrew Pierce provides pictures throughout the article that can be credible. Ethos is the main appeal used in Andrew's articles, however, a small portion of pathos can be seen. Andrew Pierce is bias in his articles which affects the amount of pathos that is used. In the article "Labour's deputy leader Tom Watson should hand Max Mosley back his $500,000" it is prevalent that Andrew Pierce does not agree with Tom Watson's actions, yet in the begging of the article Pierce recognized the good deed Watson did at a debate.
Pierce has a very opinionated style to his writings. He has an opinion on the people and situations that he writes about and he is not afraid to make it known. In 2014 Andrew Pierce wrongly claiming that Kristen Farage was Nigel Farage's, the UKIP leader, mistress while he was still married to his first wife. This insisted made Daily Mail pay for the damages to Kristen Farage. However, Andrew Pierce is still a columnist for the Daily Mail. Pierce often questions peoples motives in certain situations, yet if that person is not a total bad/good person or situation he will include the opposite appeal in the article for the audience to acknowledge that.
